Human Rights in the 20th Century is an elective class at Academy of the Canyons Middle College High School, in Santa Clarita, CA. This semester long course is designed for students who wish to conduct an in-depth study of the nature of human rights and genocide in the 20th century. The political and human consequences of warfare, repressive governments, racial and social discrimination, and ethnic cleansing will be analyzed. Additionally, specific events of human rights abuses will be examined within their historical context, so that students will understand the events, the participants, the causes, and the consequences. American foreign policy objectives and the role of human rights within those objectives will also be scrutinized and debated.
